【Lamma Vibes】

Welcome on board for an unusual Christmas Eve to Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island.

Join us to meet the artworks by Ma Chi-hang, Peggy Chan, Humchuk, Kinchoi Lam and Jess Lau, inspired by the elements of nature and cultural characteristics of South Lamma on the specially arranged kaito ferry as it sails along the festive winter dusk. The music group, The Gong Strikes One, will tell the story of everyday Lamma through Nanyin (a narrative song art presented in the Cantonese vernacular) ~ There will be two sessions available, with details as follows:

Venue: Chuen Kee Ferry

Boarding Location: Pier outside Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market

Route: From Aberdeen to Sok Kwu Wan

Destination: Sok Kwu Wan Public Pier

Quota: 30 people per session (When the quota is full, applicants will be placed on the waiting list )

Age: 5 years old or above

*Event will be conducted in Cantonese

*Free admission

* The duration of the event is about 45 minutes

*The audience is responsible for paying the return ferry fee

*After the performance, audience can take the 19:35, 21:05, 22:40 (to Central) or 19:00, 21:00, 22:20 (to Aberdeen) to depart

*The audience must follow the instructions of the staff to watch the show in groups of 4 people, and each group should maintain a social distance of 1.5 meters

About the performing group:

The Gong Strikes One

Founded in 2012, The Gong Strikes One specializes in Chinese traditional theatre music, creating original works that preserve its musicality and theatricality. The group embraces various performance settings, such as concerts, story-telling concerts, theatre and improvisation. Its debut theatre work, I, Wu Song (2017) is a one-man Chinese Opera with no words, which sets out to explore the very essence of operatic movements and music. The group is also known for writing site/occasion-specific Cantonese narrative songs; one of its major projects, Singing Nanyin as We Go (presented by the Intangible Cultural Heritage Office) tours the city with original lyrics specifically written for each district. Recently, supported by the HKADC “Arts Go Digital Platform Scheme, the group has launched the online project, Hong Kong Music Miniatures.
